“It Has Always Been Me and My Birthmark Against the World”

Overcoming Adversity: Fighting Cancer and Societal Judgment

Growing up with GCN meant facing immense challenges. Luis had to work harder than most to find acceptance, make friends, and build his self-worth. He endured relentless bullying and overcame cancer on his birthmarks at just 17, leaving him with a limp that lasted two decades. Yet, this didn’t break his spirit. It built his character, grit, and an unshakable resolve to prove his worth.

“They told me I couldn’t be a model because of my birthmark, so I became a model because of my birthmark,” says Luis, encapsulating his journey of turning pain into power.

A Leap of Faith: Reinventing Himself During the Pandemic

Breaking Barriers: Dominating the Runway and Beyond

Luis’s determination saw him losing almost 50 pounds in two months to prepare for New York Fashion Week. He dominated the runway with unmatched confidence, featured in three magazines, and appeared on three billboards. His success continued in Tennessee, where he won first place in the Men’s Judge’s Choice and second place in Men’s Theme Wear.

Despite facing a life-threatening health crisis that required an ostomy bag and a long recovery, Luis didn’t give up. Just two months later, he returned to New York Fashion Week, winning a contract with a prominent modeling agency. Shortly after, he walked the runway at The Model Experience in front of over 5,000 people, gaining further recognition with magazine features and upcoming billboards in Times Square, Las Vegas, and Miami.

Empowerment Through Diversity: Inspiring the Next Generation

Luis’s journey is not just about personal success but about paving the way for the next generation. “I alone can’t change the world, but I can make people stronger to overcome adversity like I did and follow their dreams,” he says. Luis is on a mission to inspire others to embrace who they are and turn disadvantages into advantages.

His story is one of resilience, where societal labels became his motivation. “People called me stupid, so I became a paralegal on Wall Street. People called me weird, so I became an actor and won an award. People called me ugly, so I became a model.”
