Before music became his mission, Carlos Tolliver’s life looked very different. Nine years ago, a shooting left him blind — a moment that changed everything. “I was heavy in the streets back then,” Carlos recalls. “But when I lost my eyesight, my family kept telling me to rap. They believed in me before I even believed in myself.”
That encouragement became the spark that ignited a new chapter in his life — one defined not by loss, but by purpose.
A Unique Creative Process
Being legally blind hasn’t stopped Tolliver’s creativity — if anything, it’s sharpened it. His studio process is all about feeling and instinct. “When I hear a beat I like, I play it over and over,” he says. “I can’t see, so I build everything in my head — the flow, the lyrics, the energy. Once I’m in the booth, it just falls together.”
His approach is deeply emotional, blending raw street storytelling with introspection and survival. Every verse speaks to his journey — the pain, the fight, and the triumph of never giving up.
Ready to Take the Stage
Though he’s yet to perform live, Carlos is determined to make that next step. “Performing is something I’ve been aiming for. It’s hard, but I don’t quit,” he says with conviction.
